Choosing and installing stair flooring
In many Las Vegas two-story homes, the staircase is the first thing you see from the front door. Whether you're carpeting the stairs, matching them to new vinyl plank downstairs, or switching from carpet to a hard surface, the stairs need their own plan. Our team measures every step at your free estimate and walks you through the options below.
Carpet on stairs
Carpet is still the most common choice for stairs: it's comfortable, quiet and gives good footing. Each step is covered over pad and secured at every tread and riser so the carpet stays snug.
Two common finishes are a waterfall look, where carpet flows over the edge of each step, and a cap-and-band (Hollywood) look, where carpet is wrapped tightly around each tread and nose. The right finish depends on the carpet and the staircase, and we go over it at your estimate.

Vinyl plank (LVP/SPC) and laminate stairs
Hard-surface stairs give a clean, continuous look when your main floor is luxury vinyl plank, SPC vinyl plank or laminate. Each tread and riser is cut and fitted, and the front edge of every step gets a stair nose made for that floor, so the edge is finished and secure.
- Stair nosing: many collections offer matching nosing in the same color as the plank. We confirm availability for the floor you choose before the job is scheduled.
- Treads and risers: risers can be covered in the same plank as the treads for a continuous look.
- Landings: landings get the same plank, so the floor runs continuously from step to step.
Mixing carpet and hard floors
A popular combination is vinyl plank on the main level with carpet on the stairs and upstairs bedrooms, or plank stairs leading to carpeted rooms. Where the two meet, the transition is planned at the top or bottom step so the change looks deliberate.
If you're replacing floors on both levels, we measure everything in one visit so the stairs, landings and rooms are quoted together.
Why stairs need extra care
- Safety first. Every nose and tread has to be secure, so fasteners and adhesive follow the flooring manufacturer's instructions.
- Fit and finish. Stairs are fitted one step at a time, so cut quality shows. Edges along the walls are finished cleanly and coordinated with baseboards and quarter round.
- Wear. Stairs take more traffic per square foot than almost any room, so we help you choose a product suited to that use.
Stair work is done by our own licensed crew (Nevada C-16 #0079055) and covered by our 1-year workmanship warranty.
Pricing your stairs
Stairs are priced differently from open rooms because each step takes individual cutting and finishing. The shape of the staircase, the material, and whether old carpet and tack strip have to come out all affect the price. Your free in-home estimate puts every step in writing, and the flooring cost calculator can help you plan the rest of the house.
